Who is it for?

Best for

  • Beach resetters — Long Set's 6 km of white sand still feels early
  • Plankton chasers: moonless-night swims glow for real
  • Hammock-budget travellers before the islands gentrify further

Skip if

  • You need reliable AC, ATMs and clinics — infrastructure is 'island basic'
  • Wet season (Jun–Sep): ferries thin out, some resorts shut

01Overview

Twenty-eight beaches on an island still mostly forest. Koh Touch does the hostel-bar thing; walk twenty minutes and you're alone with squeaking white sand. At night, plankton light the shallows blue-green wherever you move your hands.

02Don't miss

  1. Long Set (4K) Beach — seven kilometres, often seven people
  2. Night swim with bioluminescent plankton (moonless nights best)
  3. Sister island Koh Rong Samloem's Lazy Beach for total shutdown

Beach BBQ

Barracuda skewers grilled at sunset on Koh Touch

Amok shacks

Simpler than Phnom Penh's, eaten with sandy feet, better for it

06Pack for this one

Reef-safe sunscreen — shade is a rented umbrella
Cash for everything — no ATMs you should rely on
Torch — paths between beaches go true-dark

10Questions we actually get

Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem?

Rong for beaches + some life, Samloem for total switch-off; ferries connect them.

When for plankton?

Any dark night away from lights — schedule around the new moon.

Day trip possible?

Technically, but the ferry timings eat it; two nights is the honest minimum.

Rider's note: Cash economy: ATMs exist but fail — bring what you'll spend, in small dollars and riel.
