Who is it for?

Best for

  • Food-first travellers — the densest great-eating square km in Vietnam
  • Couples: lantern riverside at blue hour writes itself
  • Anyone who wants clothes tailored in 48 hours

Skip if

  • Crowds drain you — Old Town core is packed 17:00–21:00
  • You need nightlife: the town sleeps early by design

01Overview

A Silk Road seaport that the Thu Bồn river silted shut in the 1800s — which is precisely why it survived. Two hundred timber shophouses, Japanese bridges and Fujian assembly halls now glow under silk lanterns every evening.

02Don't miss

  1. Full-moon lantern festival — grid power off, riverbanks candlelit
  2. 24-hour tailoring: suit measured at breakfast, fitted by dinner
  3. An Bàng beach is 15 minutes by bicycle through the paddies

10Questions we actually get

How many days?

Two nights hits food + tailoring + one beach morning without rushing.

Is the full-moon lantern festival worth planning around?

Pretty but the town is at its most crowded — any clear evening is 80% of the magic.

Da Nang or Hoi An as a base?

Hoi An for atmosphere, Da Nang for beaches and flights; they're 45 min apart.

Rider's note: Old town tickets are spot-checked at bridge crossings — keep the stub; it funds restoration.
